I'm not going to do anymore coloring or at least not much (as if I have been coloring often anyway). I'll just stick to getting better at drawing and shading and whatnot. I have discouraged myself.

After looking through pretty much all 9,000 of my favorites in thumbnail view, I thought, there's no way I could top this. I didn't realize how many colored works I've faved over the years either and they were mostly high quality digital paintings and things of the sort in realism or semi-realism. I have no clue how to practice from those. Unless I have like one of them as a mentor I probably won't be doing the same stuff any time soon.XD I would prefer easy learning methods because it's already hard enough to remember the techniques I've learned since I can't produce as much as I would like to.

So yeah, I'll deal with SAI and the shading I do with the black and white water brush and airbrush. I think it helps me learn to shade better anyway.

Like here of course:

Jeez, I'm such a novice. lol Thank you for dealing with me, my work, and my journals for this long and I appreciate all faves and watches even though I don't spam everyone with "thank you's" on their profile pages anymore. XD =)

Hey, it's terrible to think that way. Keep in mind that your work is unique...as you are as a person. Your style will become more refined over time. Just be patient and keep at it.

That's right! Just stay positive and draw as much as you can. If you have a question to an artist you like, just ask and see what happens. Pretty sure they won't mind answering...

That sounds like the same thing I think but... My sketches aren't as awesome as yours are. I'm still drooling over many of them!

Aw, thanks!=D

I never have time to color anything which is why I can't color. Due to time constraints, I end up losing all hope to learn to color therefore I only work on sketching and drawing. As of now I am trying to see if I can color again since I have time.^^

Hay now, don't get too discouraged. (: There's absolutely nothing wrong with B/W shading, and everyone goes through cycles where they hate their own work. This too shall pass!

Thanks! It means a lot coming from you.:)

I bet so! (: Also, hey... you don't have to leap straight from B/W to coloring. Maybe something like this could work for you? (If you haven't seen it already): [link]

No Dark! You cant give up like that!! Dont let your fave artist discourage you, let them inspire you!

I bet they didnt always color that way! If you stop trying to use color now, it's only gonna take longer for you to get to the skill level you want later.

Besides, your coloring looks great to me! keep at it Dark!

And if you stop now, I'll beat you up! lol

lol Thanks for the motivation!:hug: I get discouraged because I've been drawing so poorly for so long that I kinda refuse to think I can do better than what I can do now and become like them. My extreme modesty plays a part as well.

Usually, it's either a time constraint or a mental failure or something. For instance, I feel interested and inspired if I have free time to draw, but I immediately lose interest as soon as I run out of ideas, or have other obligations. I really don't like how my brain works. I'll see what happens over my summer break.^^

Come on Dark! No need for modesty here! lol JK!! modesty is great but make sure you dont let it get in your way :-)

When you run out of ideas, draw something crazy lol Like Ronald Mcdonald in bondage haha

D:

Try working from real life images?
And find ones with dramatic lighting and do a few light studies.
Then you can incorporate it into your work.

That sounds like a good idea. I'll see if I can try something like this over my summer break. I am very impatient, however, and I dislike these sorts of things. I would like to start on a project immediately and test as I go, though. I'll see what happens with my twisted ideals.lol Thanks!^^

I've tried again just recently. I get nervous about asking them those sorts of questions for some reason. For now, I just asked several artists on other sites about how they studied anatomy. I'll see what happens because I plan on practicing over my summer break with limited interruptions.^^

I see what you mean. In my case, it's like I am somewhat proud of myself that I made an improvement in this one picture but when I see other people's work and improvement, it actually makes me feel like I want to give up. My mind goes back and forth like that, especially when I have no ideas to draw.D:

maybe it is because you push yourself too hard. try that you don't think about the improvement of others. Search something nice, that inspires you and then draw when you feel like you want it. I wouldn't draw only because others are better, where is the fun, dear? You have to be satisfied with your work, and this is all that counts. :hug:

Yeah, thanks for the advice. Even other people told me not to worry about that stuff.:hug:

You know?(sorry if the comment is too long) I was guilty for only watching people on art sites that had high quality works that I liked. Other than that, I watched friends and other nice people who would try to converse with me on occasions. I totally missed that everything doesn't have to be only of the highest quality to be good work. I also removed people from my watch list because they either were fake people or their works practically stayed at one level and weren't the highest quality. I think because of my admiration of the highest quality people, it reduced my confidence. I did watch some of the others back and I'm sure they probably didn't notice my absence since many people like that happened to be quite popular, too. It was usually because I liked people's original characters that I watched certain people as I matured.

Maybe if I can learn from people at my level or somewhat higher, I guess it won't seem as impossible to reach such a high level myself. By the way, I feel worse here about my art quality anyway because of all these young and talented people here. But, on sites like y!gallery, the youngest one can be is 18 so there's hardly any age bias since that's still pretty old compared to dA's population.lol So, I've got time!XD

Thanks again!:hug::heart:

Hopefully I can practice uninterrupted over my upcoming break. I'll see what I can achieve over approximately 4 months.^^
